The free swap for vidIQ, TubeBuddy and 1of10 starts inside YouTube itself. YouTube Studio's Trends tab shows what your audience searches for, breakout videos and content gaps for Shorts, and Ask Studio brainstorms ideas from your channel data. Add vidIQ Free (150 AI credits a month) and 1of10 Free (60 AI credits a month) for outlier and trend research. The catch: YouTube's tools only look at your own audience, and the free plans cap credits and search results.

  5. Use vidIQ Free's credits on titles for the one video you're actually making.

The catches

When a paid plan makes sense

If you run several channels or research niches you haven't started yet, a paid plan gives you full search results and more credits. 1of10 Basic is $15 a month billed $180 yearly, per its pricing page. (Affiliate link: we earn a commission if you upgrade, at no extra cost to you.) For vidIQ Boost and TubeBuddy, see their own pricing pages.

FAQ

Is there a free alternative to vidIQ?

Yes. YouTube Studio's Trends tab and Ask Studio are free for most creators. vidIQ also has its own free plan with 150 AI credits a month, per its pricing page.

Is 1of10 free?

1of10 has a free-forever plan with no card needed. It includes core outlier discovery and 60 AI credits a month. A thumbnail costs 4 credits and a title or idea run costs 8, so 60 credits is about 15 thumbnails or 7 title runs. Full search results need a paid plan.

Does YouTube have a free keyword tool?

The Trends tab in YouTube Studio (Analytics > Trends) shows top searches from your audience over the last 28 days, plus content gaps where viewers can't find good Shorts. It's tied to your channel, so it isn't a keyword database for any niche.

Why don't you list vidIQ Boost or TubeBuddy prices?

Both pricing pages load their prices with scripts, and we couldn't confirm the numbers on the vendor pages when we checked on Oct 18, 2026. We link the pricing pages instead of guessing.

Who can't use Ask Studio?

Per YouTube's help page, it's web only and isn't available to Made for Kids channels, Official Artist Channels or creators under 18.
